Neck Pain Treatments

Neck pain can be the result of something as simple as sleeping in the wrong position, or it may be the result of a traumatic injury. An auto accident or sports accident can cause severe neck pain and Dr. Cory Webb and Dr. Andy Webb of Health First Wellness Center in St. Charles, MO offer chiropractic treatments to get you back to your pain-free life.

Traditional chiropractic adjustments

For neck pain, one of the first things that chiropractors will do after the evaluation is a traditional chiropractic adjustment. Adjustments are done to get the vertebrae in the neck and back into alignment. Impulses travel from the brain down the spine and on to the extremities. When things are not in alignment, nothing works as well as it should. To have your body perform at maximum capacity, you need to get the messages through.

Functional exercise

Functional exercises are designed to help you to perform the tasks of your everyday life. This type of exercise uses large groups of muscles, such as those in your upper back that connect to your neck. You can mimic the activities you might do on any given day, like lifting a heavy object. It involves bending, lifting, twisting, and pushing.

Therapeutic exercise

Therapeutic exercise is individually designed for each patient, depending on what they need. It usually includes stretches along with other exercises to improve mobility and flexibility. These exercises help to continue your recovery when you are not in the chiropractor's office.

Therapeutic massage

Therapeutic massage is a very complementary therapy that works well with other chiropractic therapies. When the muscles and connective tissues are relaxed, it is easier for them to be receptive to things like a chiropractic adjustment. Massage can help to get the toxins out of your muscles and also to help with muscle spasms. When you have neck pain, your neck may feel tense and stiff and massage can help to get the kinks out.

Thermography

Thermography is a high-tech form of imaging used to measure variations in temperature that may indicate disease or abnormalities. It is used by chiropractors to detect issues in the spine. Detecting when the nerves are irritated or have been impinged is part of what it does. It can also be used to check how effective spinal adjustments are. Changes that may exist in the blood flow are visible and may be indicative of misalignment in the spine. It can show the root cause of your neck pain.
